Scientific equipment hire
From weather stations to soil sensors, soil sampling kits, acoustic data capture, and water sampling. Please contact our scientific sales team to discuss which equipment might be best suited for your needs.

Fieldwork and survey design
Our team of scientists have decades of experience organising and running everything from the simplest of surveys to the most adventurous field trips all over the world. We will help you run your fieldwork and interpret your results.

Test sites and research
We work with scientists from all over the world to test their new methods and techologies through the provision of test sites. By collecting a critical mass of data on one site from a wide variety of methods, a true comparison of which technique is best in each context can be established.

Expert-led training
Our team comprises of both professors from the world's best universities and industry experts with decades of experience. This combination of industry and research expertise means that you learn from those who have not only "done it", but also those who lead on the theory.

Accommodation (NE Scotland)
Kowlahena is named after our first fieldcentre. Located in the north east of Scotland, the Kowlahena fieldcentre provides the focal point for sustainability research projects being carried out in the surrounding area.
ABOUT
Science empowering sustainability
Founded by scientists, Kowlahena's purpose is to improve how the environment is monitored by providing easy access to equipment, test sites and expertise.
As the scrutiny surrounding Sustainability increases, our need to accurately and pragmatically monitor different aspects of our environment gains importance. Equipment required to undertake this monitoring is often expensive and difficult to access. Kowlahena addresses this need through our "kit room".
Equipment hire
The "kit room" is full of a wide range of scientific instruments which are available for rental. We include case studies of where this equipment has been used before, where we have found it to work really well, or requires some additional support to give you the data you require. If we don't have what you are looking for, we are very happy to discuss your needs and look into purchasing it for your use.
Science support
Often, those who are required to provide environmental measurements may never have done so before. We therefore offer the service of helping you to design and carry out your survey, install your equipment, and interpret your results. We are also always happy to offer this service at a discount if you are willing to let us use your data in scientific research and in helping to improve the understanding of how best to use the equipment.
Test sites
We work with scientists who are constantly developing new and improved techniques to understand the environment. We offer test sites in which these techniques can be trialled and compared to more established methodologies. As a result, we remain at the forefront of environmental monitoring, understanding which techniques are best applied where.
Training
The experience contained within our team is difficult to rival. We include Professors from Imperial College London who have also spent years working with all of the world's major (and many smaller) raw materials companies, through to those who advise the UK Government on policy and strategy. The team is constantly learning and delights in sharing and exploring these discoveries with others. Our training courses are therefore fully tailored to your needs, but also provide you with the opportunity to work closely with world leaders (who also love to teach).
